To build this stunning necklace Shana Kroiz first carves the shapes in wax and then cast the pieces using the lost wax process. Then Shana adds color and gold using her innovative method of powder painting in a fashion similar to enameling.
Lost Wax Casting - the process by which a duplicate metal sculpture (often silver, gold, brass or bronze) is cast from an original sculpture. Intricate works can be achieved by this method. The oldest known example of this technique is a 6,000-year old amulet from Pakistan.
